Masataka Shiga (Associate Professor)
Specialization: Geotechnical Engineering, Soil Mechanics, Earthquake Engineering Affiliation: Department of Urban Infrastructure and Environment, School of Urban Environmental Sciences / Urban Infrastructure and Environment Program, Graduate School of Urban Environmental Sciences, Tokyo Metropolitan University
His research covers geotechnical and earthquake engineering, focusing on seismic ground behavior and liquefaction phenomena. In recent years, he has also worked on seismic ground deformation assessment using spatial information technologies and on building a liquefaction database in light of the 2024 Noto Peninsula Earthquake. He received his master’s degree from Yokohama National University (2016-2018) and his Ph.D. from the University of Tokyo (2018-2021). He served as an assistant professor at the Institute of Industrial Science, The University of Tokyo, from 2021, and as an assistant professor in the Department of Environmental Science and Technology at Nagaoka University of Technology from 2023, before taking up his current position in 2026.
